"why li"? "why, li?" - wily yli!
So the blog title contest has finally concluded! The blog is untitled no more! If you're reading this, you should already know which title won -- it's right on top of this, in the blue title bar, or if you're reading through one of the feed readers, i'm not sure how if the blog title will get updated, but hey, the post title says it all!
Thanks to everyone for your wonderful suggestions. I really liked them all! For the record, the votes are:
yli, the immigrant woman (2 votes)
forever untitled (2 votes)
voices of a tree frog (1 votes)
Barebear (1 votes)
Why Li (6 votes)
wandering but not lost (1 votes)
woman under construction (3 votes)
1001 beautiful things (2 votes)
writing to self with witnesses (1 votes)
life after saturday (1 votes)
My Socio-blogical Imagination (1 votes)
I picked "why li" because it's the most unique and versatile* -- it doesn't bound me to any set of topics or style and will allow for all possible growth. Blue Monster, the winner (trumpet blares!) of the blog title contest, proposed two different ways of punctuations, but I'm going to not use any at all so it can be interpreted in all possible ways.
For those of you non-Chinese speakers, "li" in Chinese corresponds to many different characters, a common one of which means "to leave, part with, or separate."** Curiously, there have been a few important life transitions where I've felt the "leaving" part more sentimentally than the "woohoo! new beginning" part. Perhaps the title is a subliminal-turned-liminal perpetual question about the nature of leaving...
Taking the sounds of "why li" together, in Chinese it means 歪理, sophistry or literally: wry logic. i'm claiming it as my Chinese blog title.
Okay, enough extrapolation. The winner is announced, and the prize is on its way!
for the rest of the nominations, you've inspired my description of the blog:
"why li -- an immigrant woman under construction, exercising her socio-blogical imagination and writing with witnesses, wandering but not lost, baring her bear, singing a forever untitled song with voices of a tree frog, counting 1001 beautiful things in life after saturday..."
see, i've even worked the animals in there. well, i'm not sure about the "baring her bear" part (if you have better ideas) but the tree frog is definitely out.
again, thank you for voting, everyone! the blog has a new beginning indeed!

* well, okay, i picked "why li" because you suggested it, Dan!
** another homophone of "li" means pear, which is why Chinese people don't share a pear because to divide a pear sounds the same as "divide and separate" and that's never considered a good thing between people in good terms (not just among families and friends).
